An electrical machine (10) has a protective end cap (71) fitted at the electrical connections end. The end cap has an orifice giving access to the electrical connections through a hinged lid (82). The protective cap and lid are watertight in the closed position and are made from a plastic material which is reduced in thickness to form the lid hinge.
