UV lamp assembly for immersing in a water treatment chamber has a single synthetic, translucent base containing a low-pressure UV lamp, an electric cable entering the top of the base and electrically connected to the lamp and encapsulated in an electrically insulating epoxy resin. The resin lets UV rays pass but prevents short UV rays from passing. An Independent claim is included for sterilizing water using the above lamp assembly.
