The device for preventing a mattress from sliding sideways on a slatted bed comprises parallel upper (10) and lower (5) panels connected by a spacer attached to the upper panel. A rim (11), also attached to the upper panel, prevents sliding. The spacer fits between two adjacent slats (1a, 1b) the lower panel is mounted on a slide (22) with ledges (23a, 23b) at the top. These cooperate with ledges (16a, 16b) on the spacer to produce a wedge effect which compresses the slats between the two panels.
