An installation has a press for cutting tires into pieces and a cooling chamber for cooling the pieces sufficiently so they can be reduced to powder or granules in a crushing cell. The press has tines mounted on a vertically movable support and two horizontal perforated plates into which the tines fit. Cryogenic equipment supplies cold air to the cooling chamber. An Independent claim is included for the production of rubber crumb using an installation as above.
