The lipstick container has an outer casing (13) to receive a slidable shaft with a cup section receiving lipstick. The shaft (2) has a spiral flute (4) engaged by a rotary ring (21) in the casing to move the shaft and lipstick up and down. Upper (35) and lower (24) projections of the ring provide air tight sealing of the lipstick. An airtight upper (35) cap and an airtight lower case (32) engage the casing, ring and the base of the shaft.
