The clutch uses a plane friction pad (22) which is fixed to the transverse wall (20) of a motor driven casing. A piston (16) attached to a driven turbine wheel has a convex face (24) adjacent to the friction pad and the radius of curvature of the face increases with the distance from the axis of rotation such that an outer radius (R1) is greater than an inner radius (R2).
