The load bar (3), of a roof rack, is fixed to the roof (1) of the vehicle and has a main section (4) and two end sections (5). The main section consists of two longitudinal channels, the upper channel having an open upper face to form a T-shaped groove. The load carrying device (12) is fitted into and retained in the groove, by means of fixings (11, 13). The end sections are fixed to the closed part of the profile by means of fixings (7, 8) and to the roof by detachable fixings (6). A mobile cover (20) can be locked in place to control access to the fixings.
