Method of driving a thermal print head, uses stored values on duration of excitation of thermal elements around print point after obtaining values by experiment

The method of driving a print head uses experimental data to control duration of activation of thermal elements (26). A set of patterns (13) is proposed round a point, and elements in the pattern round the point activated for different durations. The resulting print is inspected and the pattern giving the sharpest image retained to control driving of elements for each point.
