Wirelines, wire ropes and strands made from 25 chromium super duplex stainless steel

A wireline, wire rope or strand comprising 25% chromium super duplex stainless steel, with a microstructure of approximately 50% ferrite and 50% austentite and a method for forming such. The stainless steel may be polished before it is subjected to heat treatment prior to the formation of the wireline. The heat treatment may include a solution annealing heat treatment in the range 1040 {C to 1120 {C followed by rapid quenching in water. The method of forming the wire may include wire drawing during which an interstage solution annealing or stress relief heat treatment can be applied to control the microstructure.
