PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phased array antenna system having sum pattern and difference pattern and a power synthesizing method therefor, with which the number of phase shifters capable of adjusting a phase shift quantity can be decreased in comparison with a conventional system. ;SOLUTION: Concerning this phased array antenna system, a sum pattern and a difference pattern can be obtained while utilizing the fact that the bore site direction (direction of tracking axis) of the sum pattern is same as that of the difference pattern even when the number of phase shifters capable of adjusting the phase shift quantity is equal to the number of element antennas. The phase shift quantity for difference pattern is composed of a phase shift quantity corresponding to a change in the bore site direction and a phase shift quantity fixed to each of element antennas but since the phase shift quantity corresponding to the change in the bore site direction is common in the case of obtaining the sum pattern and the difference pattern, the ordinary phase shifter capable of adjusting the phase shift quantity is shared.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
