PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for plasma spraying which uses a high density pulse plasma at ultra-high speed, can be applied to all materials of metals, ceramics, plastics, or the like, and gives a sprayed layer with lowered impurities.;SOLUTION: The thermal spraying method using electro-magnetically accelerated plasma comprises four processes characteristically. In the first process, a finely powdered thermally spraying material is intermittently supplied into a cylinder having an opening at a forward end and being sealed up with an electrical insulator at a backward end. In the second process, a pulsed voltage is applied between the inside surface of the cylinder and an anode placed in the center of the cylinder in the long direction immediately after feeding the finely powdered thermal spraying material to generate a high temperature pulse plasma in inside of the cylinder. In the third process, the high temperature pulse plasma is electro-magnetically accelerated toward the opening of the cylinder to melt the powdered thermally sprayed material fed in the cylinder by the high temperature pulse plasma into liquefied fine particles. The fourth process make the liquefied fine particles jet out from the opening of the cylinder together with the electro-magnetically accelerated high temperature pulse plasma.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
