PURPOSE: To produce a surface-treated steel sheet excellent in white rust resistance, capable of being easily produced at a low cost, without need for any special waste water treatment in production and having a zinc-base plating film and to provide a method of its production. ;CONSTITUTION: This surface-treated steel sheet has a film contg. an org. sulfur compd. having a heterocyclic structure and ≥3 mercapto groups on a zinc-base plating film. The surface-treated steel sheet is produced by applying an aq. soln. contg. an org. sulfur compd. having a heterocyclic structure and ≥3 mercapto groups and kept at pH1.5 to 4.5 on the surface of a galvanized steel sheet and then drying the sheet or by dipping the sheet in the aq. soln. and then drying the sheet.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
