PURPOSE: To obtain a cross correlation frequency range fluorescence measuring apparatus and/or phosphor measuring apparatus in which signals can be acquired at high sensitivity and high S/N ratio. ;CONSTITUTION: The inventive apparatus comprises an electromagnetic radiation source 10, means 12 for amplitude modifying an electromagnetic radiation at a first frequency, means for introducing a modulated electromagnetic radiation to a sample 20, and means 32 for detecting luminescence of the sample. The inventive apparatus further comprises means 26, 28 for supplying the detection means with a signal coherent to the amplitude modified signal and having second frequency different from the first frequency, means for modulating the gain of the detection means or amplifying the output therefrom with the signal, and means for deriving a generated signal from electromagnetic radiation and the detection means at a cross correlate frequency in order to detect the phase shift of luminescence and the variation in the modulation thereof.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
