A charge control device for a reciprocating IC engine, especially a gas engine, containing at least one cylinder (4) in which works a piston is connected to a crankshaft(10). The cylinder has an inlet opening (16) in which an inlet valve (18) works, opening and closing corresponding to the rotation of the crankshaft. The valve joins the cylinder at times with an induction channel (14) ending in the inlet opening. The cylinder has at least one outlet opening in which an outlet valve works, opening and closing corresponding to the rotation of the crankshaft. An Independent claim is also included for a method of operating the reciprocating internal combustion engine.
