PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a tunnel excavator more suitably by analyzing the image of a excavating muck carried out from a tunnel excavator by image processing technology to obtain information showing the rock mass properties of a working place. ;SOLUTION: A excavating muck photographing device disposed at the rear end of a belt conveyer 4 comprises a video camera 51 set to photograph excavating muck on the above rear end and belt from obliquely below an extension of the rear end of the belt conveyer 4 and a illuminating lamp 52 for illuminating the excavating muck on the belt, wherein the rear muck which does not reach the terminal end of the belt conveyer 4 is hidden by this side muck. Plural warning markers M1, M2, M3, M4 are set in desired positions on a display 32 of an image processor, whereby a height detecting circuit 33 is adapted to output a height signal according to the height when a part of the image of the excavating muck overlaps one of the warning markers.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
