PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to set plural sorts and classifications while taking the relations between plural decision elements into consideration by combining means for setting the plural sorts and classifications, means for discriminating the respective corresponding ranks by each of the plural decision elements and means for forming sort and classification signals. ;SOLUTION: The carrots 2 transported by a selecting conveyor 1 are subjected to image pickup by a camera 3 and the information is inputted to an MPU 5. After the information is binarized by a binarizing circuit 51 and an image processing circuit 52, lengths and areas are calculated as class decision elements and bends and cylindrical diameters are calculated as grade decision elements. Respective pieces of the decision information are inputted to a sort and classification signal forming circuit 53 which discriminates the corresponding ranks by the respective elements.
