PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply measure the flow velocity and the flow rate at high accuracy, utilizing the deflection phenomenon appearing during propagating of an ultrasonic wave in water. ;SOLUTION: A transmitting transducer 1 is disposed in one end of on a virtual measuring straight line B of an open channel, a pair of receiving transducers 2 with a remove d are disposed perpendicularly to the virtual line B. The receiving transducers 2 (21, 22) are displaced or the transmitting transducer 1 is turned, the pair of receiving transducers 2 receive an ultrasonic wave to provide output signals, the deflection distance 1 is obtained from the time when these output signals are equal in magnitude or the turn angle of the turned transducer 1 is obtained as a deflection angle, thereby calculating the flow velocity in the open channel.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
