PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance work efficiency by effectively and surely performing transfer of a rod into and from a drum of a rod mill in a short time without causing a biased hanging phenomenon. ;SOLUTION: This apparatus comprises an arm 4 advancing into and retreating from a drum of a rod mill 1, a stand 5 suspended from the arm 4 in such a manner as to be freely lifted and lowered, electric magnets 7, 7' secured to the stand 5, an engagement claw 10 secured to the stand 5 for being engaged with a rod attracted by the magnets 7, 7' and a tilting mechanism, a rotating mechanism and a lifting mechanism of the engagement claw 10. By such a constitution, the rod is grasped and held by the engagement claw 10 and attracted by the electric magnets 7, 7' surely so that the rod is lifted and transferred in and out without causing biased hanging state.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
