PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a bent bulb shaped discharge tube and a bent bulb shaped discharge tube capable of improving productivity of a bent bulb discharge tube by allowing at least an etching process and a soldering process of a lead terminal sealed in a glass bulb while in a form of a straight bulb shaped discharge tube.;SOLUTION: In the method, the glass bulb in the straight bulb shaped discharge tube is formed by evacuating an interior of a glass bulb 6, sealing rare gas of a predetermined pressure in the glass bulb, and sealing the lead terminals 4 and 5 connected to electrodes 2 and 3, and it is bent into a predetermined shape to manufacture the discharge tube of a bent bulb shape. It is characterized by that the etching process out of dipping the lead terminals 4 and 5 connected to the electrodes of the straight bulb shaped discharge tube in a chemical polishing solution and polishing the lead terminals is carried out, then the soldering process of applying solder to the polished lead terminals is carried out, and a glass bulb bending process of bending the glass bulb in the straight bulb shaped discharge tube 1 into the predetermined shape and forming it into the bent bulb shape is carried out.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
