PURPOSE: To provide a paper carton and a packing material therefor containing a gas barrier film excellent in bending resistance and food preservability. ;CONSTITUTION: A gas barrier film characterized by that 20-99wt.% of aluminum oxide is contained in a membrane is used as the whole part of the constitution of a paper carton and a packing material therefor. Or, the gas barrier film is characterized by that 20-99wt.% of aluminum oxide is contained in the membrane and the specific gravity of the membrane is set to 1.6≤b≤2.2 when the relation between the specific gravity D of the membrane and the wt.% A of aluminum oxide in the membrane is represented by a relational expression D=0.01A+b.
