PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically estimate that an information code exists in an area to be read with high probability by making it unnecessary to provide any illuminating light for reading.;SOLUTION: A stationary information code reading apparatus 1 is provided with a number of bright/dark point memory 14b for storing the change of bright points and dark points when scanning for each area to be checked for one picture area and a memory 17 for storing bright/dark points for storing the data for one picture area.
