PURPOSE: To provide a compatible polymer blend comprising a polystyrene and a polymethacrylic acid ester, having excellent transparency and appropriate water absorption and usable for preparing data-storage plates and optically gradient fibers. ;CONSTITUTION: A compatible polymer blend comprises (A) 0.1-99.9 wt.% (hereinafter '%') polystyrene composed of not less than 95% styrene, (B) 99.9-0.1% polymethacrylic ester (suitably polyethyl methacrylate) composed of B₁: 90-100% ethyl acrylate, B₂: 0-10% monomer copolymerizable with B₁ (suitably cyclohexyl methacrylate, etc.), preferably one of (A) and (B) having a glass transition temperature Tg of higher than 50C and the molecular weight Mw of both (A) and (B) being 2,000-5,000,000 Dalton.
