PURPOSE: To provide a compatible polymer blend comprising a polystyrene and a polymethacrylic acid ester, having excellent transparency and appropriate water absorption and usable for preparing data-storage plates and optically gradient fibers. ;CONSTITUTION: A compatible polymer blend comprises (A) 0.1-99.9 wt.% (hereinafter '%') polystyrene composed of not less than 95% styrene, (B) 99.9-0.1% polymethacrylic ester (suitably polyethyl methacrylate) composed of B1: 90-100% ethyl acrylate, B2: 0-10% monomer copolymerizable with B1 (suitably cyclohexyl methacrylate, etc.), preferably one of (A) and (B) having a glass transition temperature Tg of higher than 50C and the molecular weight Mw of both (A) and (B) being 2,000-5,000,000 Dalton. A polymer composition comprises preferably 40-90% the polymer blend and 60-1% polymer chemically differentiable from (A) and (B) and incompatible with both (A) and (B) (suitably polybutadiene and polyisoprene).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
