PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine a class and presence or absence of a gloss without variation by deciding based on data obtained by A-D converting an image signal obtained by imaging a dried laver by a color imaging device.;SOLUTION: A predetermined area portion of a dried laver 3 is imaged by a color imaging device 5, and its output signal is supplied to an image input unit 6. The unit 6 A-D converts analog RGB signals and outputs RGB signals. A computer system 7 stores the number of pixels input to a preset range within which an R value falls as an Rn, the number of pixels input to a preset range within which a G value falls as a Gn, and the number of pixels input to a preset range within which a B value falls as a Bn. Whether the laver is reddish or blackish is decided according to Gn/Rn or Gn/Bn. A class is decided according to Bn+Gross (here Gross=Rn+Gn+Bn) or Rn+Gross, and further a cloudiness is decided according to Bn+(Gn/Rn) or Rn+(Gn/Bn).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
