PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring apparatus which prevents an air cooling abnormality in an electronic apparatus by a method wherein the rotation state of an air-cooled fan and an obstacle existing near the air-cooled fan are recognized simultaneously.;SOLUTION: The monitoring apparatus for the operating environment of the air-cooled fan is provided with a sound source device 4 by which ultrasonic waves are radiated in parallel with the rotating shaft of the air-cooled fan 1 toward the air-cooled fan comprising a plurality of blades, a receiving device 5 which receives reflected waves returned when the ultrasonic waves are reflected and a signal processor by which the rotation state of the air-cooled fan and the distance of the reflection point of the reflected waves passed between the blades are discriminated on the basis of a received signal obtained by the receiving device.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
