PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a charcoal having good inflammability, containing a small amount of volatile components, hardly causing smoke, having suitable duration of burning, sized to an easy-to-use largeness according to the application. SOLUTION: A raw wood becoming a charcoal wood is previously cut to the easy-to-use largeness according to the application, and the cut charcoal wood is inserted into a carbonizing box 10 having a gas vent hole in the depth at which heating unevenness is hardly caused, and formed into the charcoal by rapid heating by using a charcoal-making oven 18 or the like. The action for breaking the charcoal into pieces and the action for cutting the charcoal with a saw are not required because the charcoal wood becoming the charcoal is previously cut into the easy-to-use largeness according to the application, and the inconvenience such as the generation of useless charcoal waste and charcoal powder is eliminated. The charcoal especially suitable for the charcoal for barbecue, the charcoal for a desk-top cookstove or the charcoal under a floor can be produced because the heating rate and the carbonizing temperature are freely selected according to the application.
