Thereby an iron component comprising a ferrous ion in the raw water 2 is oxidized to be chemically changed to ferric hydroxide, which, together with water, is fed to a filtration tank 4. In the filtration tank 4, forced suction filtration, where the raw water is sucked from below by a pump P1, is carried out to attach ferric hydroxide to a filter medium, thereby removing the ferric hydroxide. In such a way, the raw water 2 is filtered to produce clear water 6. A magnetic valve 7 is closed before the discharge of the clear water 6, and the clear water is fed into a clear water tank (a back wash water tank 8) until the back wash water tank 8 is filled up with the clear water.
