PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wet flue gas desulfurization apparatus and method so designed as to increase the gas-liquid contact surface area, improve and increase the stirring and dispersing capability for an absorbing liquid, and widen and make even the contact the gas-liquid contact area. SOLUTION: A nozzle 11 is installed in an absorbing liquid of a solution pool 2 arranged in a lower part of an absorption tower into which a combustion waste gas d containing sulfur dioxide is introduced and a restrictor 14 is installed in the downstream side of a pipe of a pump for supplying an absorption solution to the nozzle and an air suction pipe 17 of which opening 18 is positioned in the downstream side of the restrictor. Since the effective cross-section surface area of the restrictor is narrower than the effective cross-section surface area of the nozzle in the downstream side, negative pressure region is formed in the downstream side of the restrictor and air introduced therein is entrained as superfine air bubbles in the absorption solution by the throttling and separating effect on the absorbing liquid to be a gas-liquid mixed phase current. The gas-liquid mixed phase current is sprayed and transported far in the absorbing liquid in the pool and an accompanying current is generated in the surrounding of the sprayed gas-liquid mixed phase current and consequently becomes a large current to diffuse bubbles in the entire region before the bubbles are joined one another.
