PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical method for producing a protective colloid- stabilized polymer which has a reduced content of a volatile component and has the form of a water-redispersible powder or an aqueous disperse solution.;SOLUTION: The method comprises emulsion-polymerizing or suspension- polymerizing one or more kinds of monomers and the other copolymerizable monomers added thereto if necessary to get a polymer disperse solution, which is post-polymerized and/or distilled, followed by introducing steam or an inert gas until it has a volatile nonaqueous component residue of 2,000 ppm and then spray drying until it has that of 400 ppm, wherein the polymer disperse solution is adjusted to have a solid content of 45 mass% as measured prior to the spraying and the spray drying uses an atmosphere having an inlet temperature of 120°C; and, if necessary, redispersing the powder thus obtained in water.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
