PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct appropriate calibration, without using expensive measuring instruments to determine input-output behavioral characteristics of a display device which cannot express input/output behavioral characteristics using only the gamma values or gamma characteristics such as a liquid crystal display device, and to prepare an ICC profile, on the basis of the input/output characteristics. SOLUTION: A background pattern which arranges color patches PatA and PatB of white and black in the same ratio and a monochrome color patch PatC are compared to adjust R, G, and B values of the PatC, so that both appear the same, and then the RGB value of an intermediate gray between white and black is measured. Next, a background pattern which arranges white or black and the measured gray in the same ratio as a PatA and a PatB and the PatC are compared to adjust R, G, and B values of the PatC, so that both appear to be matched, and then the RGB value of an intermediate gray between white or black and gray is measured. Thus, the input/output characteristics data are obtained by repeating calibration.
