PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for splicing a photonic crystal fiber whose core is formed of a material having a refractive index higher than that of a cladding material to an optical fiber to be spliced at a low splice loss.;SOLUTION: In the method for splicing a photonic crystal fiber 10 which is equipped with a solid core 11 at the center of the fiber and a cladding material 12 which has a large number of narrow pores 12a provided so as to cover the core 11 and extended along the core 11, and in which the core 11 is formed of material having refractive index higher than that of the cladding material 12, to an optical fiber to be spliced 20, the sealing of the narrow pores 12a of the cladding material 12 in a splice end 14 is performed to the splice end 14 of the photonic crystal fiber 10.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
