PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform retrieval even during the update of an index and to terminate update within time decided by a manager even if the quantity of documents being the objects of retrieval becomes large.;SOLUTION: A system is provided with a plurality of retrieval performing devices having the update functions of indexes, a meta-retrieval device which retrieves the retrieval performing devices at once and integrates retrieval results and a retrieval managing device managing to/from which retrieval performing device the document is added/deleted and to which retrieval performing device a retrieval expression is to be transmitted.
