METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CLASSIFICATION BY DETECTING ROAD USER AND OBSTACLE BASED ON CAMERA IMAGE AND DETECTING DISTANCE TO OBSERVER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of classifying road users by detecting the road users based on camera images, and determining distances from an observer, and an apparatus suited for the method. SOLUTION: An area within a two-dimensional camera image having no distance resolution is identified by a classifier adjusted for road users and for obstacles, and the area identified is marked in a further step. Further, the distance to the observer is measured using a distance measuring sensor and then the area selected is supplied to a type classification part which identifies road users and obstacles.
