PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arbitrarily switch the line speed of a transmission device during a communication service operation, without emitting transmission line warning on a line speed switching method in a subscriber system transmission system and on the transmission devices of the station side and the subscriber side.;SOLUTION: A control bit multiplex part 1-14 multiplexes line speed information and an error detection code with a outgoing frame from the station side transmission device 1-10 to the subscriber transmission device 1-20. The resultant line speed information is previously transmitted to the subscriber transmission device 1-20 and the station side transmission device 1-10 changes the line speed and error detection encoding range in the next outgoing frame. The subscriber transmission device 1-20 separates the line speed information and transmission line warning from the outgoing frame by using a control bit separation part 1-24 and switches the line speed for receiving the next down frame, in accordance with line speed information.
