PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum overhead power transmission line with optical fibers and a method for sensing corrosion using it, which can monitor the generated corrosion without a worker and a corrosion observing apparatus on the aluminum overhead power transmission line.;SOLUTION: Since aluminum lines 11, 12 for sensing the corrosion are under the same corroded environment as the aluminum strands 3a, 3b twisted together, the corrosion on the aluminum lines 11, 12 is generated to the same extent as the aluminum strands 3a, 3b when the aluminum overhead power transmission line 10 is used. When the corrosion on the aluminum lines 11, 12 progresses and exceeds the thickness of an aluminum pipe 11d, the optical fibers 11a, 11b in the aluminum pipe 11d are exposed to the corroding environment such as an oxide and moisture, etc., and distortion and an increase of a loss are generated due to bending by pressure from the oxide or degrading by a hydroxyl group. The progress of the corrosion of the aluminum overhead power transmission line 10 with the optical fibers can be monitored by sensing the change of the characteristic of the optical fibers in the aluminum lines 11, 12 for sensing the corrosion.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
