PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming granule in an ascending flow anaerobic sludge bed reaction tank capable of shortening a granule forming period and capable of inexpensively forming granules, and an apparatus using the method.;SOLUTION: The granule forming method for maximally developing the characteristics of anaerobic microorganism is a method for accelerating the formation of granules while holding microorganisms to an overload state and desirably includes a first acceleration process for holding the overload state by the concentration of raw water and a second acceleration process for holding the overload state by the flow rate of raw water.
