PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printer in which an ink ribbon of a multi-time ribbon is rewound by reversing a ribbon roller by the number of revolution smaller than the number of revolution thereof when winding the ink ribbon of a part provided to print one line every time one line is printed by the thermal transfer printer which can detect the number of revolution of the ribbon roller rotating in association with winding and rewinding the ink ribbon and a method for rewinding an ink ribbon of this thermal transfer printer.;SOLUTION: There is provided a detecting member 11 of an encoder which can detect the number of revolution of the ribbon roller 16e via a roller-driving member 10. The number of revolution of the ribbon roller 16e when winding or rewinding the ink ribbon 17 while a ribbon cassette 16 is loaded to a carriage 7 is detected by the detecting member 11.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
