PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cracks and exfoliations and improve the life of performance of an alumina - spinel monolithic refractory used for equipment for vacuum degassing such as RH and DH methods, ladle smelting, etc., for which the refractory is required to have long-life performance.;SOLUTION: For a monolithic refractory containing alumina and alumina - magnesia spinel (MgAl2O4) as major components, the content of ultrafine alumina with particle size of ≤1 μm is regulated to be 1-20 wt.% (preferably 10-20 wt.%) and the purity of alumina materials ≥99.5%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
