PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate the kind or genuineness of an object to be detected such as a casting having a diffraction grating mounted on its surface, and to recognize the object.;SOLUTION: This recognition device 1 by a reflecting optical element 2 is a recognition device equipped with the circular detection object 3 having the reflecting optical element 2 formed on its surface, an illumination means 4 for irradiating the object to be detected 3 with illumination light, a light- receiving means 5 for receiving reflected light from the reflecting optical element 2, a signal processing part for processing an output signal of the light-receiving means 5, and a discrimination part for discriminating a pattern of the reflecting optical element 2 based on signal-processed data. The output signal of the light-receiving means 5 is formed, while on e or more of the illumination means 4, the light-receiving means 5 and the object 3 are rotated or while moving around the object 3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
