PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the reproducible measurement of the mechanical properties of a covered fiber such as covered optical fiber or electric wire, a covering member or a layer of the covering member. SOLUTION: The mechanical characteristics of a covered fiber are measured by fixing the covered fiber to at least one supporting member and applying displacement and/or stress to the covered fiber with the supporting member.
