PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a optical coupling and branching element with low cost and low optical loss without using an expensive AWG, an optical nonreciprocal device with high stability and low cost without using a magneto-optical material or magnet, and an applied optical parts/device.;SOLUTION: D-shaped fibers forming a tilting fiber Bragg grid are arranged proximately, with the D-shaped planes faced with each other. As a result, wavelength selectivity and nonreciprocal transmitting characteristics for waveguide light are obtained. Accordingly, a number of parts and devices for optical communication can be realized by using, as a basic device, the D-shaped fibers so arranged.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
