PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an SREBP-2 gene expression promoting agent capable of significantly promoting the expression of SREBP-2 gene deeply participating in the control of a fatty acid metabolism-relating enzyme and a fatty acid synthesis enzyme in addition to the biosynthesis and uptake of cholesterol and, accordingly, useful as an agent for depressing neutral fat level in blood. SOLUTION: This SREBP-2 gene expression promoting agent contains a compound expressed by general formula (1) (R is an organic group; X is CH2CH2 or CH=CH; and M is H, an alkyl or a physiologically permissible cationic group) or its lactone as an active component.
