Organic light emitting devices which are comprised of a heterostructure for producing electroluminescence wherein the heterostructure is comprised of an emissive layer containing a phosphorescent dopant compound which has reduced symmetry for producing a saturated red emission with greater brightness. For example, the phosphorescent dopant compound may be comprised of a compound having the structure with formula (II): embedded image;where the R-groups R1, R2, R3 and R4 are, independently of one another, alkyl, aryl or hydrogen, with the proviso that at least one of the R-groups is different from at least one other R-group.
