Processes for producing electrical energy and a high purity hydrogen stream from a feed charge comprising a hydrocarbon or an oxygenate, and a combined partial oxidation burner reactor for use in the production of electrical energy
"PROCESSES TO PRODUCE ELECTRICAL ENERGY AND A HIGH PURITY HYDROGEN CURRENT FROM A POWER LOAD UNDERSTANDING A HYDROCARBONIDE OR OXYGENATE, AND, COMBINED PARTIAL OXIDATION BURNER REACTOR FOR USE IN PRODUCTION. Hydrogen generation and fuel cell operation are integrated through the use of a low-cost hydrogen generation zone, which comprises a pre-reform zone (14), a partial oxidation zone (24), a reform (28), a water gas displacement zone (18). The anode waste gas (9) from the fuel cell is burned to provide heat to pre-reform the supply (1) to the hydrogen generation zone while the burner outlet temperatures (22) and the outlet temperatures of the reform zone (28) are controlled to eliminate thermal cycling in the hydrogenation zone. This simplified control of temperatures on the hot side in the hydrogen generation zone below about 700 198 C, combined with the use of pre-reform zone (14) allows the use of carbon steel and / or stainless steel for the construction of the hydrogenation zone while providing an efficient system that does not require external fuel and offers a high degree of flexibility of the feed load at low cost.
