The arrangement of the magnetic core (3) and any parts of the coil (2) or actuator casing (1) attached to it is designed so that the core can move if the anchor (4) hits it. During actuator operation, the variable air gap (13) between the core and anchor is kept to a minimum when the anchor is in the holding position. The actuator contains a coil which is connectable to a voltage source and which surrounds a magnetic core. The actuator cooperates with a magnetic anchor which can be moved backwards and forwards under the influence of the magnetic force, between working and holding positions.
