Production of an activated acid comprises reacting a carbonyl bis-lactamate with an acid of molecular weight below 800 g/mol. Independent claims are included for: (1) the obtained acid with a polymerizable group that is not an acid group; (2) a heat-curable composition containing this compound, with more than 1 activated acid group and at least 2 OH groups; and (3) the production of a star-shaped compound by reacting an activated acid with more than 2 activated acid groups and a polymer with a hydroxy or amine group.
