The sanitary installation comprises a tap (39) with a water outflow aperture, a front edge and a rear edge, the front edge being accessible for a user (13) to wash hands. On the front edge (9) of the wash basin (5) is a screening part (37) which in its height extends to a level above the wash basin. A side of the basin is turned towards the basin itself and a side opposite to it is for a user. The water outflow aperture (43) of the tap is by the front edge of the basin. The screening part is wholly or partly hollow and is provided with at least one internal space. One or more of the following components can be incorporated in the installation:- a further tap, soap holder, soap dispenser for liquid soap, hand tissue dispenser, blow-out aperture for drying air, drying air fan, electrical presence sensor, electrical operating component, storage compartment, locating shelf, audio and/or video equipment, hook for suspending a handbag support for accommodating briefcase or suitcase, lighting equipment.
