The differential culture based detection of Yarrowia lipolytica yeast comprises identification to reduce detection time to below 24 hours. The culture medium is peptone 5, yeast extract 5 glucose 0.5 and agar 20 g/litre respectively, with 10 mM of tyrosine and 1mM of Mn2+. The tyrosine is converted into chestnut-yellow pigment which becomes visible in or after 12 hours, as a characteristic of the yeast.
