The electric handtool (8) has a handgrip (11) and a housing (10) containing a planetary drive (5) for converting a rotary movement of a drive shaft (1) into an oscillation movement, with adjustment of the oscillation amplitude of an impact hammer (2) via a sun wheel (6) of the planetary drive. The control of the oscillation amplitude is provided in dependence on the manual axial force applied to the handgrip, e.g. via a microprocessor control.
