PROCESS AND ARRANGEMENT FOR THE AUTOMATED CONVEYING, SORTING AND LOADING OF BAGGAGE ITEMS

The invention relates to a process for the automatedconveying, sorting and loading of baggage items inairports which have a baggage-conveyinc facility whichconveys the baggage from a check-in reg on to a baggagearea, from where it is transported for loading intoaircraft, it being the case, in a first step, for eachbaggage item, that the flight destination and travelclass thereof as well as the weight, shape, volume andconsistency thereof are recorded and registered and, ina second step, the recorded baggage data are enteredinto a computer system (packing computer) which dividesthe baggage items into predetermined classes anddetermines optimum assignment to the loading means inaccordance with classification and flight destinationand, in a third step, the baggage items handled in thisway are transported for loading in accordance with thedefined assignment to loading stations and there, in afourth step, are loaded into loading means essentiallyin an automated manner. The invention also relates toan arrangement which is suitable for implementing theprocess.
