METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATED DISTINGUISHED NAME LOCKUPABSTRACTA method and system for an automated distinguished name lookup is provided for use in aLightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory operation. A user provides input via adialog window for an identifier string which is not a distinguished name. A directory search isrequested using a LDAP search filter string (456) that contains at least a portion of the identifierstring. In response to the requested directory search, one or more distinguished names arereceived (438). If a single a distinguished name is received, the received distinguished isautomatically applied in the LDAP directory operation (462). If a plurality of distinguishednames are received, the plurality of distinguished names are presented to the user (466), and theuser may select one of the plurality of distinguished names (468). The selected distinguishedname is then applied in the LDAP directory operation (462), which may perform an authentication process for the user using a distinguished name received in response to therequested directory search.FIG 4
